Theatre and Dance
Theatre or dance programs
A number of programs provide a focus on theatre and/or dance. Some are general programs open to all students that offer theatre and dance courses; others are only open to theatre or dance students.
Make an appointment with a Study Abroad adviser to identify the best program for you.
NEW PROGRAM in Summer 2013!
Shakespeare and Puppets in Prague: In a country of more than two-century-long tradition of puppetry and homeland of internationally renowned Jiří Trnka and Jan Švankmajer, Collegium Hieronymi Pragensis organizes in cooperation with Prague based Japanese puppeteer Nori Sawa and Linda Gates from the Northwestern University Theater Department an intensive puppetry summer program.
The program is ideal for performers, designers, directors, stage managers, puppeteers and lovers of puppetry.
Northwestern students interested in transferring credit back to Northwestern for this program must apply for permission to study abroad on a Non-NU Summer program by an extended deadline at the end of April 2013 and also directly to CHP for acceptance by its May 3 deadline. Please call (847) 467-6400 for more details. Non-Northwestern students should apply directly to CHP only.
Programs open only to Theatre students
Tips for earning major or minor theatre or dance credit abroad
- Research the course descriptions of the classes you plan to take abroad so your advisor can consult them and ensure the classes correspond to major/minor requirements at Northwestern.
- Determine which courses you want to take at Northwestern when you return from study abroad. This is necessary because not all courses are offered every quarter.
- Read Choosing Courses to Take Abroad, including School-specific requirements.
- For credit in Theatre, meet with Linda Gates well before departure.
