Description:
Designed for students seeking a multidisciplinary study of Japan and its people, this program offers Japanese language study at Kanda University of International Studies (KUIS) and English-taught area studies courses at the IES Abroad Center and KUIS. The program also offers cultural opportunities, field trips, an optional field placement, and Japanese student "ePals" to help students integrate into local student life.

Term Notes: Spring Semester generally begins in late March, so students enroll for Winter Quarter at NU and finish final exams before departure. If students do not take Winter Quarter classes at Northwestern, they must enroll in at least 15 semester credits while abroad.

Language Requirements:
One year or the equivalent of college-level Japanese. This is a Northwestern requirement. (IES does not require any prior language study.)
