Description: 

Students attend classes at Waseda University’s School of International Liberal Studies, which include intensive Japanese language instruction and content courses across the curriculum taught in English. A one-month cultural practicum opportunity is available in which students live with a second host family and engage in internship-style experiences with local institutions outside of the Tokyo area.

Term Notes: Earlham College's application deadline is in January for all options (Full-Year, Fall/Winter, Winter/Spring). If participating in the Fall/Winter (fall semester + cultural practicum) program, compare the program's calendar with NU's academic calendar and, if necessary, contact the Japan Study office at Earlham College to verify that it will be possible to return prior to the start of Spring quarter.

Admission Info:

To apply, Northwestern students must:

  1. Complete an NU Study Abroad Application by December 15.
  2. Complete Earlham College's Japan Study application by the program's January deadline.

Languages: Japanese, English

Language Requirements: 

One year of college-level Japanese or the equivalent.  This is a Northwestern requirement (Earlham College requires 1 quarter of college-level Japanese).
