General Health and Safety Guidelines
Helping to ensure the health and safety of Northwestern students abroad is one of the top priorities of the Northwestern Study Abroad Office.
Our recommendations
Before departure- Read any pre-departure information that you receive from your program provider or on-site director.
- Visit the Northwestern University Travel Health Services web page for information on immunizations and to schedule a travel consulation appointment. Some countries require that you get immunizations well in advance of your trip.
- Explore the resources provided by International SOS, the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Travelers' Health.
While abroad
Exercise due caution by:
- Following the advice of the on-site staff
- Staying abreast of local conditions
- Seeking additional information regarding your study abroad country and any other countries to which you plan to travel
- Monitoring your own health
- Staying in touch with your program, the Northwestern Study Abroad Office, International SOS, and your parents, should a crisis arise
