Morton Owen Schapiro, president of Williams College, professor of economics, and one of the country's leading experts in the economics of higher education, has been named president of Northwestern University, Patrick G. Ryan, chairman of Northwestern's Board of Trustees, announced today (December 16, 2008).

Schapiro, 55, will become Northwestern's 16th president, effective September 1, 2009. He will succeed Henry S. Bienen, who will step down after a highly successful presidency spanning 14 years.  Story Continues...
