Eco reps logoEco-Reps serve to inform, educate, and engage on-campus residents on sustainable opportunities. By collaborating with peers and leading programs within Residence Colleges, Residence Halls, and Greek Houses, Eco-Reps enhance Northwestern’s efforts as a leader in sustainability.

ECO-REPS ARE EVERYWHERE

Eco-Reps also have a database of over 60 programs at other higher education institutions throughout the U.S., presenting Eco-Reps the opportunity to learn from other Universities in developing programs to make the college experience more environmentally friendly.
Thanks to last year’s Eco-Reps, the foundation has been laid for a united and structured program. With the help of the Office of Sustainability, Student Affairs, Resident Housing and Hall Governments, Eco-Reps now have a handbook, and several tools to communicate with students, such as NU’s Green Pledge, Green Living Guide, Green Cup competition, and Green Room Certification.

So what does it really mean to be an Eco-Rep?

  • As an Eco-Rep you hold a leadership position in your Residence Hall, Residential College Government or in your Greek Executive Board (cough, cough… resume builder!)
  • You will be provided with free CFL bulbs, a powerstrip, clothes drying rack, and thermometer, which you can show off to your fellow peers
  • Serve as a conduit, encouraging students to fill out the Green Pledge and get their room “green” certified
  • Serve as a resource for students regarding NU’s waste and energy reduction, transportation, food and dining, and sustainable purchasing initiatives
  • Organize awesome programs, such as trashion shows, green craft nights, zero waste challenges, putting on Earth Hour, traveling to local restaurants, and “Do it in the Dark” energy conservation movie nights.
  • You will be provided with a free LED bulb, a SMART strip, spork, reusable water bottle, reusable bag, and an energy use monitor, which you can show off to your fellow peers. 
  • Lastly, you have the opportunity to proudly wear an awesome Eco-Reps t-shirt all about town!
