ROB WHITTiER, DIRECTOR OF SUSTAINABILITY
Rob Whittier is responsible for leading the University’s strategic approach to sustainability in operations, curriculum and student and community engagement. Prior to joining Northwestern University as the Director of Sustainability, Rob was a leader within Deloitte Consulting’s Sustainability and Climate Change practice where he provided advisory services to clients in the areas of sustainably strategy, alternative energy and cleantech, greenhouse gas management and water, waste and resource management. Before joining Deloitte, Robert was a Director with General Electric’s ecomagination initiative and worked in GE Energy with a focus on alternative energy.
Robert completed his MBA at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan with an emphasis on Strategy and Sustainability. He is Lean Six Sigma certified and is a LEED Accredited Professional with the USGBC and he sits on the board of Directors of the Delta Institute – a Chicago based organization focused on the policy and practice of sustainable development and environmental stewardship in the Great Lakes region.
JULIE CAHILLANE, MANAGER OF RECYCLING AND REFUSE
Since 1994 Julie Cahillane has been with Northwestern University where she manages recycling and refuse operations for the Evanston and Chicago campuses. Her position entails contract management, program development and education. She is a LEED AP and attempts to steer Northwestern in ‘green’ directions including serving as a founding member of the NU Sustainability Working Group.
Prior to working for Northwestern, Julie worked as an education coordinator for CRInc., a recycling company. In this role, she researched and designed solid waste education programs addressing waste reduction, recycling and recycled product procurement. Julie was recycling coordinator for the State of Illinois from 1991 to 1993. In this position, Julie was responsible for the State's statewide office recycling program. She was appointed to the State of Illinois Task Force on Developing Markets for Recyclable Materials.
ALLISON POTTEIGER, COMMUNICATIONS AND OUTREACH INTERN
Allison Potteiger is the newest edition to the Northwestern Office of Sustainability; she is responsible for the Office’s communications strategy, Eco-Reps program, Facilities Management Newsletter, as well as an assortment of other projects and programs. Prior to working at Northwestern, she served as a Sustainability Fellow at Yale University’s Office of Sustainability where she helped establish an overarching communications strategy for Yale’s Sustainability Strategic Plan and assisted in the development of sustainability strategic plans for the Yale School of Medicine and Yale Athletics. She has been involved in sustainability since her time at Ohio University where she worked as an Intern at their Office of Sustainability and served as the President of the student “Eco-Rep” program, promoting sustainable lifestyles through recycling and energy conservation.
