Mid Campus Green

PROJECT updates

Two activities will affect campus pedestrian routes for a short period of time.

August 6 - 16: Annenberg South Exit Closure
The south exit to Annenberg will be closed from August 6th through August 16th. Demolition in the entire area south of Annenberg will begin. All bicycles need to be removed prior to Monday, August 6. The new south exit sidewalk will be installed and re-opened by August 16th. This work has been coordinated to begin after Center for Talent Development ends August 3rd to minimize the impact.

August 13 - September 4: Pond Walk Closure
The sidewalk adjacent to the cooling pond behind the Allen Center will be closed from August 13th through September 4th. Pedestrians will need to use alternate routes while this walk is being replaced. Signage will be posted at walk prior to closing including suggested alternate routes.

Starting August 20: East-West Drive Closure

In the near future, traffic routes will be affected by the closure of the east-west drive south of Garrett Seminary and north of Swift Hall. This work is currently projected to begin on August 20th. An update for this closure will be issued closer to the actual date. This will cause the Allen Center and the Central Utility Plant (CUP) to take deliveries from the south via Campus Drive from Entrance A.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION & STATISTICS

The Mid Campus Green project will create a pedestrian friendly green space in the central core of Northwestern University’s Evanston campus, which is currently occupied by 2 surface parking lots. The project’s main feature, a broad lawn area, will be located south of Silverman Hall and east of Annenberg. The project also includes new pedestrian walks, lighting, bike racks, and landscaping. The area between Pancoe and the Allen Center will be enhanced by more pedestrian friendly materials and traffic control devices that are intended to restrict traffic from the inner campus, as defined by the concepts in the University’s Campus Framework Plan. Minor modifications will be made to the far east end of the recently completed 1 Northwestern Place Parking lot to visually discourage vehicles from entering the inner campus.
