"From Hamlet to the Tempest" - Shakespeare

- This course traces the development of Shakespeare's career from Hamlet , which marks a convenient mid-point to The Tempest. In addition to these plays we will read Twelfth Night, King Lear, Othello, Macbeth, Antony and Cleopatra, and The Winter's Tale.
- Evaluation will be based on attendance/participation, five mini-essays on individual words or small-scale phenomena, and a paper (2,000-2,500 words).
- Any single-volume edition of Shakespeare will do. We will also use WordHoard (http://wordhoard.northwestern.edu)
