Campus/Community Involvement

This list includes both local and international opportunities.

  • Applied Medical Society (AMS): Student group offering events geared towards all students interested in healthcare fields, including allopathic medicine, alternative medicine, nursing, emergency medicine and sports medicine.  AMS also offers quarterly Health Care Provider CPR classes.
  • ASG Student Group Directory is a comprehensive listing of all student groups at Northwestern University.
  • Campus Kitchens employs student volunteers to recycle unserved food from dining facilities on campus into nutritious meals for seniors, youth programs and other community organizations.
  • Center for Student Involvement (CSI) is an NU sponsored organization which promotes the development of engaged citizens by supporting student service and philanthropy organizations and connecting students to community agencies in Evanston and Chicagoland.
  • Global Engagement Summit: Undergraduates and recent graduates from over 40 countries, 50 universities, and more than 35 global nonprofits meet for five days of exchange and capacity building at Northwestern, including workshops, direct mentorships with nonprofit leaders, and outcome opportunities.
  • Global Engagement Summer Institute: A two-course summer study abroad program run by Northwestern University's Center for Global Engagement with a focus on community development in a global context
  • International Program Development (IPD): IPD runs 24 international study programs in 10 countries on 6 continents. The Northwestern Global Health Studies minor is also housed within IPD, which runs the minor public health study abroad programs in Mexico, China, South Africa, France, and Uganda. IPD also facilitates research & volunteer opportunities for undergraduates and graduate students, and sponsors visiting faculty from institutional partners.
  • National Student Partnerships: A year-round, student-led volunteer service organization that links people in need with the resources and opportunities necessary to become self-sufficient.
  • Northwestern Community Development Corps (NCDC) is a student-run organization which seeks to engage students in community development at Northwestern, in Evanston, and throughout Chicago by promoting volunteer work at local sites including Mather Pavilion, Community Health, the Heartland Alliance, and La Rabida Children's Hospital.
  • Northwestern University's Pre-Dental Society (NUPDS): Student group committed to learning about the field of dentistry, forming relationships with peers who have similar professional interests, and providing resources to students as they are applying to dental school. 
  • Northwestern University Study Abroad Office: The Northwestern University Study Abroad Office enriches the undergraduate curriculum by providing students with rigorous immersion opportunities abroad. These transformative experiences shape the way students think about themselves, their communities, and the world. Study abroad experiences are available during the academic year and summer.
  • OASIS (Organized Action by Students Invested in Society is an NU sponsored community service umbrella organization which promotes volunteer opportunities at seventeen sites in Evanston and Chicago, including Ronald McDonald House, Lake Shore HealthCare and Rehabilitation Centre, and Greenwood Care.
  • Office of Fellowships: Fellowships are awards by private and public institutions to fund research, travel, study, or experiential learning in the US or around the world.  To help students match their goals with the appropriate applications, the Office of Fellowships encourages students to review their website, attend a weekly information session and make an appointment with an adviser in their office.
  • One Step Before (OSB): Student group committed to serving NU's minority premedical students; providing valuable information that premedical students need prior to attending medical school through meetings, workshops, events, etc; and promoting all minorities in medicine.
  • Peer Health Exchange (PHE) Program: A non-profit organization whose mission is to give teenagers the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy decisions by training college students to teach a comprehensive health curriculum in public schools that lack health education.
  • South-East Asia Center: A community-based, educational and social service organization providing material, cultural, emotional, and educational aid to the needy in the culturally diverse immigrant neighborhoods of Uptown.
  • Special Olympics: A global nonprofit organization serving people with intellectual disabilities through year-round sports training and competition.
  • Unite For Sight: An international nonprofit committed to providing eye care worldwide and offering high impact hands-on public health opportunities for volunteers.
  • Undergraduate Engagement Grants (UEG):  UEGs support support intensive and experiential learning.  The Office of the Provost offers funding for exceptional projects that cannot be completed or funded through existing programs.  The maximum grant amount is $2,000
  • Undergraduate Premedical Society at Northwestern University (UPS):A student organization designed to provide NU's premedical students with resources and opportunities as they plan to apply to medical school. 
  • University Residential Life Community Assistant: Become a University Residential Life Community Assistant (CA). 
  • Volunteer Abroad: A website and search tool providing information on a wide variety of international volunteer opportunities.
  • Volunteer Match: An online non-profit network which helps users to find local volunteer opportunities by location, interest area, or keyword.
