May is National Physical Fitness & Sports Month! Just 30 minutes of moderate activity a day, can reduce your risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, and some types of cancer. That's why, in May, YourLife will be celebrating by encouraging all Northwestern faculty and staff to get 30 minutes of physical activity a day. Walking-Running Clinic: Best Practices for Starting a Regimen

Monday, June 11, 12:10 p.m. - 12:50 p.m., Henry Crown Sports Pavilion, Meet in the lobby, Evanston

Join YourLife and Northwestern Athletics for this clinic in preparation for the Run for Walk 4.1 mile race and 5k family walk. 'A Havahla Haynes, Northwestern University Women's Cross Country Head Coach, will guide participants through a warm-up, group run/walk, and strengthening exercises. Open to faculty and staff. Beginner and intermediate level.

Run for Walk

Sunday, August 29, 7:30 a.m.

YourLife has partnered with Northwestern Athletics to offer faculty and staff a discount for the annual Run for Walk on July 29. The event honors the late Northwestern Football head coach, Randy Walker. The 5K run and family walk will lead participants through the Northwestern campus and tree-lined streets of Evanston. The discounted faculty and staff registration fee is $30. For registration information, click here.

Amenities for this CARA certified race include: a short sleeved technical t-shirt, chronotrack "B-Chip" timing, a ticket to a non-conference Northwestern football game of your choice, and the race finish on the 50 yard line of Ryan Field (weather & field conditions permitting). "Eating Out and Eating Healthy" Brown Bag

Join us for this seminar led by Christine Palumbo, RDN, award winning Chicago-area registered dietitian. Participants will learn tips for healthy eating on the go and how to make healthy and balanced selections when     eating out. Healthy portion sizes and strategies for adding more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins to meals will also be discussed.

ENERGY Nutrition Resource Meetings

ENERGY meetings provide peer support and discussion around physical wellness and weight management, as well as nutritional and dietary resources. Join us at one of our weekly meetings! New members and drop-ins are always welcome; membership is not required to attend. Feel free to bring your lunch.

ENERGY Nutrition Consultations

Schedule an appointment with Vicki Shanta Retelny, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Learn techniques that fit your lifestyle – eating a balanced diet, meal planning and grocery shopping – at these one-on-one consultations! Vicki can assist you with setting realistic nutrition goals, and will provide you with motivational tips toward future progress. These 25-minute consultations are FREE for all Northwestern faculty and staff. A questionnaire will be provided before your appointment to assist Vicki in personalizing your consultation. Mindfulness Meditation

Tuesdays, 1:30 p.m. - 1:55 p.m., Abbott Hall, Women's Center Suite 1400, Chicago

Join YourLife each Tuesday for a meditative practice. The benefits of meditation include reducing stress, improving concentration and increasing happiness. Meditation formats will vary from guided meditations, to recordings and artistic meditations. No previous experience is necessary. Elizabeth Tuckwell will lead the guided meditations. Elizabeth is the founder of Art With Intention, a website that pairs the art of self-expression with the art of meditation. 

Fridays, 12:00 p.m. - 12:25 p.m., Parkes Hall, Multi-Belief Space, Room 204, Evanston

Join Religious & Spiritual Life each Friday for a guided mindfulness meditation practice. Mindfulness meditation can help to cultivate awareness to the present moment without judgement. This practice includes paying attention to the breath, the entire body, and sounds. No previous experience is necessary and first time participants are encouraged to come a few minutes early or to schedule an appointment with Eric Budzynski.
