March Second at 4:00pm, watch Lauren Herold as she talks with Brittney Thomas of Brave Space Alliance

Born and raised in Chicago in the west side neighborhood of North Lawndale, Brittney decided early on that they wanted to make a difference in all communities like North Lawndale and for their community members specifically working to increase access and sustainability. During their studies at DePaul University Brittney studied Community Psychology which utilizes both restorative and transformative justice frameworks to empower community members to create an environment necessary for its inhabitants to thrive. Brittney graduated with a Bachelors’ Degree in Community Psychology and a minor in Community Services Studies from DePaul University in 2013 and immediately began implementing trauma-informed, preventive, and empowerment strategies for Black and Brown youth and families within underserved and under-resourced communities in Chicago. After serving as a youth advocate and organizer for Black and Brown youth as a facilitator, mentor, and career & life coach with a focus on LGBTQIA+ identifying youth for most of their career, Brittney decided that it was time to take a step back from direct service work and move into a more executive role within an organization that not only implements its values within its work but also prioritizes marginalized communities and identities
