Junior Year in Bonn

Junior Year in Bonn website  (map)

Sponsor: International Office of the University of Bonn

Location: Bonn, Germany

The program offers students the unique opportunity to participate in a full semester of study abroad at the University of Bonn while only being away from Northwestern during Spring quarter and to potentially finish the NU language requirement in German. The program follows the German academic calendar, with students attending during the German "Sommersemester," which typically runs from late March through late July. To be eligible for the program, students must complete Beginning German 101-1 in Fall quarter and 101-2 in Winter quarter.

Students are placed in intensive beginner, intermediate or advanced level German language (meets 12 hours/week) based on pre-departure and on-site language placement exams. Students complement German language study with English-taught electives offered by the International Office in topics like German culture, media, politics and history. Students with advanced German have the opportunity to enroll in regular courses with German students in a wide variety of disciplines at the University of Bonn.
