On this program, students choose an academic focus, consisting of a required core course and integrated study tours. Students take a required Swedish language and culture class, as well as elective courses from a wide variety of disciplines. Small class sizes, expert faculty, research opportunities, and field studies create an intense, experiential learning environment.

  • Carefully review our Academic Requirements web page. DIS requires students to enroll in a minimum of 12 semester credits. However, if you're interested in earning 6 units of credit at Northwestern per semester, you will need to enroll in a minimum of 15 semester credits; this is particularly important for students attending during DIS' Spring semester (Northwestern's Winter/Spring period). Note: DIS offers several 1-credit courses, which are not eligible for credit transfer to Northwestern. Courses must be worth at least 2 semester credits in order to be eligible to transfer back to Northwestern.

Admission Requirements:

1. Complete a Northwestern Study Abroad Application by the January 15th application deadline for Fall and Full Year. Please note that this is an early deadline for DIS fall/full year applicants. The deadline for Winter/Spring is June 1.
