The Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad (CASA) in Barcelona offers a full-immersion program, where students can take courses at four Barcelona institutions, each with its own academic specialties. This program is designed for students in all disciplines with advanced Spanish skills.

Application requirements:

  1. Complete a Northwestern Study Abroad Application by February 10
  2. Interview with Jessica Fetridge, Adviser for CASA Barcelona, by February 10 

Enrollment requirements:

Students participating in the CASA Program must enroll in at least 5 courses, including:

for a total of 27-30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits.

Course restrictions:

  • Each local university course must be worth a minimum of 2 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits
  • Students cannot take any courses taught in English at the local universities
  • Students cannot take any courses from the Hispanic and European Studies Program (HESP) at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra

Languages: Spanish, Catalan

Language Requirements: 

  • Completion of at least two language, literature, or culture courses (200-level+) at Northwestern
  • Or a score of 5 on the Advanced Placement exam in Spanish language and completion of at least one 200-level course at Northwestern
