This program, based on the Beijing Foreign Studies University (Bei Wai) campus, offers an array of intensive Chinese language courses - including upper level, topic-based Chinese language electives - as well area studies courses taught in English in disciplines such Asian Studies, Economics, International Relations, Literature, Political Science, and Sociology.  If you are a heritage speaker, you can take advantage of custom-designed programming that focuses on your individual language needs.

Admission Info:

To apply, Northwestern students must:

  1. Complete a Northwestern Study Abroad Application by the appropriate deadline
  2. Complete an IES application by the program's deadline

Language Requirements: 



Homestay or an international student dormitory with a Chinese roommate. Students in the limited homestays are provided breakfast and dinner by their host family, seven days a week, while the program is in session. Meals are not included with the dormitory option, but students can eat at one of several university cafeterias or prepare their own meals in shared kitchens.
