Location: Santiago, Chile


Students enroll in the required IFSA-Butler Advanced Spanish: Grammar, Composition and Conversation course and then combine IFSA-Butler elective courses for study abroad students with classes alongside local students at up to 3 different universities: the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad de Chile and Universidad Diego Portales. Students can also pursue a credit-bearing research project. Classes are taught in Spanish.

Term Notes: This program follows the Chilean academic calendar: Fall Quarter begins in mid-July and ends in early December. Winter/Spring Quarters begin in late February and end in early July.


  • Spanish majors and minors must discuss their study abroad plans with a departmental adviser.

Admission Info:
To apply, Northwestern students must: 

  1. Complete a Northwestern Study Abroad Application by the appropriate deadline
  2. Complete an IFSA-Butler application by the program's deadline

Language Requirements: 

Completion of Spanish 199 or the equivalent of college-level Spanish required; completion of one 200-level class recommended.
