Presentation Content:
Throughout 1995, the InterNIC conducted a program of outreach with the Research and Education community, attending academic computing conferences such as the ACM Special Interest Group for University and College Computing, the Coalition for Networked Information, EDUCOM, Cause, and the IETF. The purpose of the outreach was to solicit feedback regarding useful and constructive InterNIC support programs.
The primary objective of this presentation is to provide an update to the members of the R&E community regarding the outreach effort, new InterNIC services, information and support programs, and partnership opportunities.
The goal of the presentation will be to promote the training series and newsletter and to solicit further collaborative partners in developing additional materials for both projects. Participants will leave with an understanding of new Internet training resources and current-awareness services including:
- The 15 Minute Series
The 15 Minute Series consists of modular and extensible training packages an Internet trainer can use in tailoring a training program within a library, academic computing center, or other R&E locations. The packages will be available in multiple formats including common presentation software, PS, HTML; we are even looking at CBT tools. Each of these packages will be freely available to the Internet community. We are actively seeking partners to develop the series, especially module authors. The InterNIC will host, promote, and fund development.
- InterNIC News
Formerly the NSFNet Newsletter, the new version is all-electronic and available in multiple formats (HTML, PDF, PS). The focus includes interviews with key figures from the Internet community, InterNIC statistics, a technical column, a newcomers column, and other Internet news.
- Internet Metering and Demography Clearinghouse
Outlined in the June 1996 InterNIC News, the InterNIC is developing a clearinghouse program which highlights efforts to "meter" or "measure" the Internet or to develop demographic information related to it's community.
