Department chairs and program directors are essential to excellence at Northwestern. The Office of the Provost offers the following programs to support chairs and program directors in their first and second year as they gain experience in their new role.
Chairs Mentoring Program
The Chairs Mentoring Program engages an experienced former department chair to serve as mentor for a small cohort group of newer chairs (serving in their first or second year as chair) as they navigate their duties in this leadership role. In addition, Adam Goodman, Director of Northwestern’s Center for Leadership and faculty member in the McCormick School of Engineering, serves as Executive Coach for this mentoring program. The program provides a valuable opportunity for newer department chairs to build connections with colleagues who are in similar leadership positions at Northwestern. Monthly meetings take place over breakfast or lunch. For more information, please contact Joan Marie Johnson, Director for Faculty, Office of the Provost, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
New Chairs and Directors Welcome Program

In addition, experienced chairs and directors and a panel of school deans will provides insights on impactful leadership and university priorities. The program is held annually just prior to the start of the academic year. For more information, please contact Joan Marie Johnson, Director for Faculty, Office of the Provost, at email@example.com
