Named in honor of Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, mentor to Martin Luther King, Jr., the MMUF was established in 1988 to reduce the underrepresentation of minorities with faculty rank with higher education institutions.
The Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program (MMUF) aims to increase diversity in the faculty of higher education institutions by identifying students of great promise and helping them become scholars of the highest distinction.
The Northwestern MMUF program is for rising undergraduates considering graduate study toward a Ph.D. in designated fields who possess a demonstrated commitment to eradicating racial disparities.
