Faculty Accolades | Six named AAAS fellows | Six faculty members have been chosen as 2020 fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the largest general scientific society in the world.
Shi-Yuan Cheng, André de Gouvêa, William Dichtel, Kenneth Forbus, Jiaxing Huang and Michael Jewett have been elected in recognition of their distinguished efforts to advance science. They will be honored virtually in February in an induction ceremony for new fellows. | |

Gifts | New fellowship for scientists in nanotechnology | The International Institute for Nanotechnology at Northwestern has announced a new fellowship to support young scientists who demonstrate outstanding talent and promise in the field of nanotechnology.
The Weinberg Family Postdoctoral Fellowship, made possible through a gift from the family of Judd A. Weinberg, will be awarded annually and includes a $65,000 stipend to support research and travel to scholarly meetings.

| Coronavirus | Should a COVID-19 vaccine be mandated? | Now that multiple drugmakers have reported highly effective results for their COVID-19 vaccines, it’s only a matter of time before they’re released for public consumption. So, should vaccination be mandated?
Dr. Tina Tan and Lori Post of Feinberg say mandating a vaccine is a non-starter or at least shouldn’t be required for all people. And legal expert Juliet Sorensen of Northwestern Law said local vaccine mandates have solid legal precedent to be enforced.
