Northwestern Commencement Time Changed

Commencement ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2011

Northwestern University’s commencement ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2011, University officials announced today. The ceremony previously had been scheduled for 6 p.m. that day.

Changing the ceremony to a morning time provides greater flexibility for scheduling activities associated with commencement, including the convocation ceremonies for each of Northwestern’s schools.  Several of the schools will now hold their convocation ceremonies on the same day as commencement.

The new schedule for commencement activities will be as follows. Graduates should check with their schools for detailed information on convocations.

Thursday, June 16, 2011
10 a.m. – noon Student Honors Day event, Cahn Auditorium
Noon – 2 p.m.  President’s reception for graduating seniors and families, Norris University Center
3-5 p.m.  The Graduate School PhD and MFA Hooding Ceremony, Cahn Auditorium
4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.  Baccalaureate service, Pick-Staiger Concert Hall

2:30 p.m. School of Continuing Studies Convocation, Millar Chapel
3 p.m.  School of Education and Social Policy Convocation, Cahn Auditorium

Northwestern is contacting area hotels asking them to allow families that have already made reservations to adjust their travel plans.

The convocation ceremonies for Northwestern’s School of Law and Feinberg School of Medicine, which are held in May, will not be affected by the change.
