After completing their first year of classes at Northwestern’s campus in Doha, Qatar, eight students from NU-Q traveled to the United States last week to meet their Wildcat counterparts in Evanston.

During their 10-day visit, NU-Q students experienced different aspects of campus life in Evanston by sitting in on a variety of classes, mingling with students at an all-campus picnic, meeting with deans, faculty and staff members, talking to members of the Associated Student Government and other student organizations and attending social events on campus.

The group also took the El into Chicago to experience the sights and sounds of the Windy City. Students took an architectural boat tour on the Chicago River, shopped on Michigan Avenue and toured some of Chicago’s famous museums.

Zainab Sultan, a sophomore studying journalism at NU-Q, had previously only seen Northwestern landmarks such as the Rock and the Arch in photographs during the NU-Q orientation. She said the trip to Evanston helped strengthen the connection between the two Northwestern campuses.
“We are beginning to realize what we actually are a part of,” she said. “We are beginning to realize what we really belong to, and that is a good feeling.”
