Alejandro Magaña

Director

Director

I am Alejandro Magaña (he/him), and I'm honored to serve as the Director of Multicultural Student Affairs. I joined MSA in 2013, initially as a liaison to the Latinx community. Over the years, I've grown within the organization, becoming the Associate Director in 2019 and ultimately assuming the role of Director in 2021.

As the Director, I provide leadership and management for MSA's programs, services, and facilities. Working alongside a diverse and talented team, our focus is on fostering a sense of community and belonging among students on campus. Additionally, I'm actively involved in the CIC Leadership Team and various division-wide committees.

My journey in higher education began in 2005, and I've since dedicated my career to creating inclusive environments for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and undocumented students. What drives me in this role is the chance to champion student needs, dismantle systemic barriers, and contribute to the ongoing legacy of those who fought for a place on this campus.

Originally from Chicago's southwest side, I now reside in Skokie with my wife and son. A product of Chicago Public Schools and a proud first-generation TRIO alumnus of DePaul University, I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in History and American Studies, as well as a Master’s of Science in Public Service.

Beyond my professional commitments, I consult in the realm of diversity and inclusion. My personal interests include soccer, gardening, and acquiring new skills such as sewing and woodworking.
