Puttin’ on the Ritz

The 2009 Alumni Awards celebration.

Northwestern alumni, faculty, staff and friends descended on the elegant Ritz-Carlton in Chicago on Sept. 25 to honor 18 accomplished individuals at the 77th annual Northwestern Alumni Association Alumni Awards.

Neil G. Bluhm (L62), a self-made real estate giant who founded the firm JMB Realty, received the Alumni Medal. The highest distinction the NAA grants to alumni, the medal recognizes both professional and philanthropic accomplishments.

It was the first Alumni Awards ceremony for President Morton Schapiro, who assumed Northwestern's presidency less than a month before. He praised the recipients in his remarks and was given a warm welcome by the attendees.

Dave Eanet (J77), sports director for WGN Radio and the longtime voice of Wildcat men's basketball and football, served as master of ceremonies. The Bienen Brass Quintet, a group made up of Bienen School of Music students, entertained guests throughout the evening.
