Sixty NU Club of Coachella Valley alumni and friends gathered for an alumni luncheon Jan. 16 at the historic Smoke Tree Ranch in Palm Springs, Calif. Guest speaker Michael Hammond (WCAS66), executive director of the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum in Palm Springs, spoke about Native American history and culture. On Feb. 10, the Northwestern women's golf team visited Coachella Valley for a match versus Northwestern alumni at Desert Falls Country Club. (The women's golf team beat the grads.) Several days later, the club hosted 77 alumni for dinner at Ironwood Country Club, featuring award-winning journalist, international advertising consultant and author Joe Cappo, who spoke about the future of advertising.

The NU Club of Greater New York held a Super Tuesday Happy Hour at Dewey's Flatiron Feb. 5. More than 50 New York alumni toasted their favorite candidates and watched the Super Tuesday primary results.

This year's Dance Marathon, held March 7–9 (see "The Big Dance"), received some extra support from young alumni around the country. NU Clubs of Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Greater New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, the Twin Cities and Washington, D.C., raised more than $3,500. The alumni events kicked off in Chicago at the sixth annual alumni benefit at the Adler Planetarium Feb. 7, which featured Wildcat head football coach Pat Fitzgerald (SESP97). On campus, more than 750 dancers raised a record total $933,855 for Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation and the Evanston Community Foundation.

On Feb. 16 NU Club of Indianapolis members joined the Indiana Association of Chinese Americans to ring in the Year of the Rat with a 13-course meal and a group lion dance.

On Feb. 20 and 21 the NU Clubs of Houston and Austin sponsored "Networking: The Most Powerful Tool in Your Arsenal," featuring Rob Sullivan (GJ90), a career coach, corporate trainer and author of Getting Your Foot in the Door When You Don't Have a Leg to Stand On (McGraw Hill, 2002).

Texas-area alumni also had an opportunity to do some career networking Feb. 23, when the NU Club of Dallas-Fort Worth and the NU Kellogg Club of Dallas-Fort Worth co-hosted their annual career and networking symposium at the Richards Group in Dallas. Raymond Farley (EB51), retired president and CEO of S.C. Johnson & Son Inc., offered in-depth insights on topics such as executive recruiting, changing careers, entrepreneurship, work-life balance and leadership.
