Even a loss to Nebraska in the Alamo Bowl couldn't prevent Wildcat fans from having a good time in San Antonio. Thousands of purple-clad Northwestern alumni and other supporters toured the area's historic missions, strolled the Riverwalk and enjoyed mild, sunny weather for several days last December.

Approximately 500 alumni and others participated in the sold-out official alumni tour, while thousands more joined the crowd for all the San Antonio hoopla. With 800 in attendance, a "Celebrate Northwestern" performance packed the Hyatt Regency grand ballroom to capacity. The evening featured four current music theatre students as well as Catherine Brunell (Mu97), now starring on Broadway in Les Miserables, and Kim Varhola (S98), now in Rent on Broadway. Brunell appeared in "Celebrate Northwestern" in 1995 as a student and Varhola participated in it as a student at the time of the Citrus Bowl festivities in 1996.

More than 1,400 Northwestern fans thronged the plaza of San Antonio's historic La Villita area for a pre-game tailgate. Decked out in purple from their cowboy hats to their boots, the Wildcat supporters were the fashion hit of Alamo Bowl weekend.
