Men’s Rugby Marks 40th Anniversary

Northwestern’s men’s rugby club will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in style this coming year.

In observance of the club’s four decades of scrums and mauls, the team will have a float during the Homecoming parade for the first time in its history.

The club will also take its biennial spring break tour, which is open to all rugby club alumni. This year the team will head to the Bahamas.

The club started taking these international tours in 2000, when club members went to the United Kingdom, playing matches in Glasgow and Stirling, Scotland, and Newcastle, England. They have since traveled to Spain, France, Andorra, Germany and Argentina. The club organizes matches with local universities and colleges at their travel destinations and squeezes in some sightseeing as well.

In the spring the club will play its annual alumni match on Long Field, with graduates from the 1980s to 2011 competing for bragging rights against the current squad. A social event will follow the match.
