Karen Zissis, co-founder and principal of Kinc
Katherine Ross (GC87) and Karen Zissis (GC88), both of Chicago, own Kinc, a Chicago design and fabrication studio. They created a series of installations for the Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit at the new Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago with creative partners the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Lookingglass Theatre. Kinc’s designs, inspired by the CSO and the Lookingglass 2010 production of Peter and the Wolf, include original paintings, environments, photos and puppets. The team chose Prokofiev’s symphony because of how Peter prevails with the help of his friends. “Some of the children will spend months at a time in the Cardiac Care Unit,” says Ross. “We’re going to make sure they’re always in a space that engages and uplifts them.” Read more about the project on Kinc’s website.
