The Alumnae of Northwestern University selected renowned soprano Nancy Gustafson (GMu80) (see "The Soaring Soprano," fall 2002) as its 2007 Alumnae of the Year and will honor her Sept. 30 at Lutkin Hall, where she will perform with School of Music Dean Toni-Marie Montgomery. With funds raised through the Alumnae board's continuing education program and sponsorships for the Waa-Mu Show, the organization in 2007-08 will support 40 projects proposed by Northwestern faculty and departments, award fellowships and scholarships and fund an endowed professorship. Total Alumnae gifts will exceed $225,000.

At the Alumnae board's annual meeting May 21 at the Guild Lounge in Scott Hall, members presented its 2007 Senior Award for community service to Nadia Rawls (WCAS07), executive co-chair of the 2007 Dance Marathon. Laura Scheinbaum (C07) received the Alumnae board's annual Joe Miller Award for her four years of participation in the Waa-Mu Show.

NUEA (Northwestern University Entertainment Alliance) West kicked off 2007 by introducing new co-presidents Heath Corson (WCAS95) and April Wright (KSM92). With returning co-president Tim Micsko (C96), they are creating opportunities to support members' careers in entertainment and strengthen the alumni network. In July members screened short films featuring alumni at the MBar in Hollywood and attended a script-reading event. Northwestern alumni also gathered for a bar night mixer with University of Michigan and Yale University alumni.
