At the annual meeting of the Alumnae of Northwestern University in May, members presented senior awards to Jessica Joslin (SESP06) and Ashley Pasen (WCAS06) for volunteer service and Antonette Balestreri (C06) and Liz Kimball (C06) for outstanding participation in the Waa-Mu Show. The Alumnae board’s new officers are Pamela Butler James (WCAS71), president; Lynn Stephenson Carver (C53), vice president; Margaret Griffith Eskilson (SESP59), treasurer; Carolyn Hall Krulee (SESP69), recording secretary; and Gail Whitelaw Joy (WCAS55), corresponding secretary. The fall quarter of the Alumnae continuing education courses begins Sept. 26 at the Norris University Center. Courses include International Security; Music in American Culture Today; The Soviet Union and the Jewish Experience, 1917–1991; and Medieval Metamorphoses: Cultural Evolutions of Four European Cities.
The Council of One Hundred hosted a series of networking events in Washington, D.C., New York City, Los Angeles and Boulder, Colo., for undergraduates, graduate students and recent alumni in July. On Sept. 28–29 the club will discuss its strategic plan at its annual fall meeting on the Chicago campus. NUBAA (Northwestern University Black Alumni Association) is currently teaming up with the student organization For Members Only to host a 5K run/walk on the Evanston campus Oct. 7. The race is open to all runners and will raise funds for a new undergraduate scholarship. Through the leadership of Charles Maseredjian (D66), nearly 40 members of the Northwestern University Dental School Alumni class of 1966 celebrated their 40th reunion April 21–22 in Chicago. On Oct. 16 Dental alumni will be gathering at a reception at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention Center in Las Vegas during the American Dental Association Annual Session. The 2007 midwinter reception and reunion for Dental School alumni is set for Feb. 24 at the Hard Rock Hotel in downtown Chicago.
The NUEA (Northwestern University Entertainment Alliance) East sends its thanks to founding member and first president Lori Longstreth Chase (C88) and president Jen Bender (C01), who are retiring from club leadership. New officers include co-presidents Erik Gensler (C00) and Travis McGhie (C00), treasurer Claire Wilmoth (Mu05) and membership chair Nancy Feldman (C03).
Members of NUEA West turned out to support fellow alumni in the entertainment industry at their annual Los Angeles–Northwestern University Showcase at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood on May 23. The showcase gives unrepresented alumni writers and actors the chance to perform for agents, managers, producers and casting directors.
