USCIS Fee Changes

Effective April 1st, USCIS has announced fee adjustments for various non-immigrant applications including those listed below. Learn more from USCIS and review the fee schedule table.

I-539 application fee to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant status

  • Online application fee decreases from $455 to $420
  • Paper application fee increases from $370 to $470

I-765 application fee for Employment Authorization 

  • Online application fee increases from $410 to $470 
  • Paper application fee increases from $410 to $520

I-907 Premium Processing Fees 

  • Premium processing is an OPTIONAL additional fee. Learn more about Premium Processing.
  • Increases from $1,500 to $1,685 for Form I-765 applications
  • Increases from $1,750 to $1,965 for Form I-539 applications

Update on Premium Processing Times

In addition to premium processing fee increases, USCIS is also adjusting its premium processing timelines effective April 1, 2024. As of that date, the premium processing timeline will be based on  business days instead of calendar days. Business days are Monday - Friday, excluding holidays.

Please note, the premium processing processing time does not account for EAD production time or EAD mail delivery time (for I-765 applications). Allow 1 - 3 weeks additional time for production and mail delivery of the Employment Authorization Document (EAD).

OISS Sponsored Tax Workshop - Last workshop of this tax season!

Tax season is upon us! The filing deadline for tax year 2023 is April 15, 2024, so don't delay. During these virtual workshops, Alejandro Young from Young & Associates, LLC, will present on the tax filing requirements and rules for international students and scholars. Alejandro has more than 20 years of experience in the area of tax services for internationals and has been providing tax filing workshops for the University since 2018.

Sprintax Webinars

In these free webinars, Sprintax will provide information to international students and scholars on all there is to know about nonresident tax for the 2023 tax season. Topics will include who must file, tax residency, FICA, State returns, implications of misfiling, as well as how to use Sprintax to prepare a compliant tax return.

Coffee Talk returns for Spring term

All students and scholars are invited to join Northwestern's Counseling and Psychological Services team and Buffett's Office of International Student and Scholar Services for a Coffee Talk aimed at connecting international students, international scholars and those with international experiences.

Time: Every other Friday, 3:00-4:00 PM
Dates: April 5th, April 19th, May 3rd, May 17th, and May 31st.

Northwestern Fulbright Week:
April 8 - 12

Northwestern’s Fulbright Week (April 8–12, 2024) offers faculty, students and staff opportunities to learn about Fulbright grants, make new connections and increase their chances of a successful application. Fulbright Week is organized by the Buffett Institute for Global Affairs and supported by the Office of Fellowships, Office of the Provost and Office of the Vice President for International Relations.  View the full schedule of events.

Buffett Institute Open House for Undergraduates

The Buffett Institute for Global Affairs offers undergraduates a variety of opportunities to engage with the world. You can study abroad through our Global Learning Office, learn about and contribute to international development through our new Elliott Scholars Program, and make connections with faculty and fellow students at our events. Please attend the open house to enjoy cuisines from around the world and learn more about our opportunities for undergraduates seeking to engage globally.
