International Exploratory Travel Grants for Faculty: Strengthening Institutional Partnerships
Northwestern University’s Office of the Vice President for International Relations offers a travel grant to encourage faculty to explore potential collaborations at Northwestern’s partner institutions. Full-time members of the Northwestern faculty may apply to travel for up to one week to partner institutions to promote faculty and institutional collaborations and strengthen Northwestern’s existing partnerships, or to bring a faculty member from a partner institution to Northwestern for that same purpose. The fund may also be used by a Northwestern faculty member to bring a Northwestern colleague with him/her to broaden existing institutional relationships.
Eligible partner institutions include:
- National Taiwan University
- Peking University
- Sciences Po
- Tel Aviv University
- University of Hamburg
- Universidad Panamericana
- Université Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3
Successful proposals will demonstrate the potential to create meaningful and sustainable exchange with colleagues at Northwestern’s partner institutions and to raise Northwestern’s visibility in the international academic and research community. They will also demonstrate the potential for increasing the internationalization of the Northwestern campus by engaging faculty at the partner institution.
Applicants are encouraged to include activities at the partner institution, such as meeting with potential graduate students, presenting research to colleagues, conducting collaborative work with colleagues, conducting a workshop or seminar, meeting with alumni in the region for dinner and/or a presentation, visiting Northwestern students who are participating in exchange programs or in specially-designed programs at the host institution, and so on. To maximize the usefulness of the activity for the partner institution, it is expected that travel will take place when the partner institution is in session.
