Listed below are answers to commonly asked questions about the Well-being Grants program. If you have a question that is not answered below, please contact wellbeing@northwestern.edu with your question(s).

Who can submit a grant application?

Any part-time or full-time faculty or staff member.

Can more than one person from my department submit a grant application?

Yes.

Who reviews the application?

The HR Well-being Specialist and a subcommittee from the Well-being Champions committee.

Is there an in-person interview as well as the written application?

No. The online application is the only requirement, however you may be contacted if any clarifying information is required. The follow-up discussion may take place via phone or video call.

How many grants will be awarded each grant cycle?

A total of $2000 is available to fund grants each quarter. The number of grants awarded will vary based on the number of applications and request amounts.

How long does it take to find out whether my grant application was accepted for funding?

Notifications are typically provided two to three weeks after the application period has closed. Final notification varies each quarter. Please visit Wellness Grants and review the “Timeline” section.

If awarded a grant, how long will it take to receive the funds?

Once notified of approval of your grant application, you will be provided with purchasing procedures and can make purchases immediately. Awarded funding must be spent by the end of the fiscal year.

If my department is awarded a grant, can we apply again the next quarter?

No, there is a one-year waiting period to reapply (i.e. if funded in summer 2022, you will be eligible to apply in summer 2023).

What happens if my application is not funded, can I apply again the next grant cycle?

Yes.

Are certain types of activities prioritized?

No. We encourage you to submit applications based on the needs that are best suited for your school, department or unit.

What’s the difference between a well-being room and break room?

A well-being room is specifically for well-being purposes, such as meditation or physical activity. Food is not allowed in a well-being room unless for a specified well-being activity or event. The room also differs from a lactation room. There are available lactation rooms on campus.
