How Do I Apply for a Job?

Northwestern University is a vibrant academic community comprised of employees performing in many different types of positions, such as research, administrative, and academic. All staff positions at Northwestern are posted on the Northwestern University web site and you must apply online to be considered for a position. To apply for a regular staff position at Northwestern University, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Northwestern University home page at and click on “Jobs”. Under the “Apply Now” section of the “Jobs” page you will find a listing of all staff positions at Northwestern for which we are currently recruiting.
  2. Browse the list of open positions. Northwestern has positions available on three campuses: Evanston, Illinois; Chicago, Illinois; Doha, Qatar. Additionally, our website allows you to search for positions based on a number of parameters, including job function, location, and even by key word. Alternately, you can also view the entire list of open positions.
  3. Once you have determined the position(s) you are interest in, you must formally apply online for each of these positions by submitting an online application, resume, and, in some cases, cover letter. You may apply to more than one position at a time.
  4. Once you have applied online, you will receive an automatic confirmation email indicating that your resume has been received. If it is determined your background may be a good match for the position, you will be contacted by the Office of Human Resources or directly by the Department regarding next steps.
