Message From the Director

Welcome to Health Promotion and Wellness (HPaW), where we are dedicated to creating a healthier Northwestern University community.
The staff of HPaW believes that student well-being truly serves as the foundation upon which a more successful academic and personal life is built, while at Northwestern and beyond. Our evidence-based prevention education programs and services and our broader health promotion efforts all focus upon and support this idea, whether we are interacting with a single student, a larger group, or the entire student body.
Currently, our efforts are primarily focused on alcohol and other drug concerns and are expanding into new areas of physical and mental health promotion so we may better support the well-being of the whole student. Our professional staff have great expertise in college health promotion yet come from diverse academic disciplines and prior professional experiences, which has proven highly advantageous to supporting Northwestern students.
Collaboration is essential to creating a healthier Northwestern community. Therefore, we partner purposefully with many departments within the Division of Student Affairs, in the academic schools, with numerous student organizations, and with a number of Evanston and Chicago community partners. Because of these close working relationships, we can assist you by making referrals to many wellness resources and services on and off campus.
Last, but certainly not least, we are committed to engaging undergraduate and graduate students in the design and delivery of our programs and services. We currently have students involved in peer education and activism groups, training facilitation positions, undergraduate work study positions, graduate internships, and as committee members. These opportunities are expanding every year. Students are encouraged to contact us to find how how they can help create a healthier Northwestern University community.
