Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day

On the fourth Thursday of each April, more than 37 million Americans at over 3.5 million workplaces participate in Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day. This year's Work Day was a University-wide event led by Northwestern's Human Resources. Members of our Facilities team joined the family filled event and brought their children to tag along with them for a day. A tenacious planning committee from Facilities came together to present an engaging and educational Work Day for nearly 103 kids.

There were seven breakout sessions that focused on sustainability, women in the skills, life in the skilled trades, high-security locks and building projects. The kids took a tour of both the Chicago and Evanston paint and carpentry shops, the Chicago lock shop and the Evanston central utility plant.

The kids left with nameplate souvenirs created by their own hands and pulled right from the stock of Facilities materials. The day’s activities allowed the kids to explore the inner workings of Facilities and most importantly learn about the vital role their parent’s play in the workplace.
