Spring 2018

Inaugural Facilities Newsletterdangelo

Welcome to our first edition of the all-new Northwestern University Facilities newsletter. This publication is written to showcase Facilities support at the University. We hope that this newsletter builds on the sense of community that makes Northwestern a special place. You may have noticed a slight change in our department name, which was previously “Facilities Management.” Because our service lines have recently expanded with the addition of Auxiliary Services, we have broadened our name to simply “Facilities.”

fieldhouseTransforming Northwestern's Athletics Experience

Northwestern Athletics attracts student competitors from across the nation and it is our commitment to match their Facilities experience with the excellence seen in all our University programs. In partnership with Northwestern Athletics and Recreation leaders, we set out to pursue a new vision for their education and athletic needs. Out of that collaboration came the plans for a once in a lifetime Facilities and Athletics effort, the Ryan Fieldhouse and Walter Athletics Center. The four-year project is nearing  a tremendous milestone with the grand opening slated for late summer 2018.

Northwestern's Commitment to Sustainability

Northwestern’s University-wide sustainability program, sustainNU, commits to creating an ecologically sound, socially just, and economically sustainable culture that engages students, faculty, and staff. In 2017, sustainNU initiated a University-wide Strategic Sustainability Plan to solidify Northwestern’s commitment to mitigating climate change. The comprehensive plan details the next five years of environmental stewardship—laying the groundwork for achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Facilities staff members play crucial roles in achieving the University’s sustainability goals.

On the fourth Thursday of each April, more than 37 million Americans at over 3.5 million workplaces participate in Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day. Members of our Facilities team joined the family filled event and brought their children to tag along with them for a day. A tenacious planning committee from Facilities came together to present an engaging and educational Work Day for nearly 103 kids.
