Community Service Partnerships

On May 5, 2022, Facilities sustainNU, hosted our second annual urban beautification tree planting in partnership with the City of Evanston and Chicago Gateway Green. Student. Facilities Grounds Crew and other staff volunteers met in Evanston’s Centennial Park, planting serviceberry, redbud, and oak trees.

These trees will all grow to sequester carbon and provide animals and insects with shelter and food. (Photography courtsey of Matt Mansueto Photography).

Project Team 2022

On Oct 17th 2021, Northwestern Facilities and Athletics departments partnered to host 35 students and 5 teachers from Funston Elementary school, a Chicago Public School near Logan Square. The students began their day by running soccer drills on Hutcheson Field, then moved on to a tour of the Walter Athletics Center and wrapped up their visit by cheering on Northwestern’s Women’s Soccer team. This opportunity was made possible in coordination with the Jim Finks Foundation’s Adventure Program which helps inspire students to see beyond the constraints of their immediate neighborhoods while building life skills, leadership, and service.
