Connections & Relationships

“A deep sense of love and belonging is an irresistible need of all people. We are biologically, cognitively, physically, and spiritually wired to love, to be loved, and to belong. When those needs are not met, we don't function as we were meant to. We break. We fall apart. We numb. We ache. We hurt others. We get sick.” – Brene Brown

Human beings have a need for connection. In fact, it is one of the most powerful human needs. Studies consistently show that as social animals, human beings need each to survive. Social connection improves psychological well-being and physical health. When it comes to relationships, what is important is feeling that others will support you, are there for you, and are connected to you.
We encourage you to take some time this month to deepen and strengthen the relationships you already have established. Some steps to doing this are communicating openly and honestly, listening, doing something fun together, being supportive, and being respectful. We want you to focus on leaning into the relationships with your family, community, and friends. We also encourage you to think if there are some ways to broaden your connections and see if you can make an effort to do so.  Also, try to create new connections and be open to meeting new people in your life.

Ways to Enhance Connection

  1. Replace some screen time with face to face time
  2. Livening up a relationship by doing something new with each other
  3. Reach out to a friend or family member you have not talked to in a while
  4. Open up more to someone who is close to you
