Post-Testing Message

After completing a COVID-19 test for Northwestern, testers will receive the following message via email, which details next steps.

Dear Northwestern Community Member,

Our records show that you recently completed your SARS-COV-2 test at Northwestern University. Your particular test is being processed by Tempus, which is a reference laboratory that the University is partnering with in conjunction with Northwestern Medicine. As you heard during your visit to our testing site, Tempus will send an email with instructions on how to download their app to review your results. This app will directly provide you with your results as soon as they are available.

Students

If your test results come back positive, a member of Northwestern’s COVID Response Team will reach out to walk you through next steps. This will include direction regarding your need to self-isolate as well as guidance regarding how Northwestern will help support your health and welfare throughout this period. In the event that you receive notification of a positive result through the app prior to hearing from the COVID Response Team, please immediately begin to self-isolate pending further guidance and call us at 847-491-8422. This number is currently staffed with case managers from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. At all other times, please call 847-491-8100 to be connected to the University Health Service’s after hours call service and ask to speak with the physician-on-call. If at any point you require emergency medical attention, call 911 to access the most local emergency services.

Faculty & Staff

If your test results come back positive, a member of Northwestern’s COVID Response Team will contact you to discuss the need to self-isolate and to provide guidance regarding your path to return to work. If you receive notification of a positive result through the app prior to hearing from the COVID Response Team, please immediately begin to self-isolate pending further guidance and call us at 847-491-8422. This number is currently staffed with case managers from Monday to Friday between 8am and 5 p.m. In addition to working with our COVID Response Team, please work directly with your primary care clinical team to notify them of your positive test and to seek direction on any follow-up care. If at any point you require emergency medical attention, call 911 to access the most local emergency services.
