Dear Prospective Graduate,  

We are almost at the end of the spring quarter - less than two weeks away from Commencement! We want to make sure your weekend of celebration goes as smoothly as possible, so we ask you to review the following checklist in order to best prepare for your Commencement experience:

Previous 2019 Email Reminders

April 30, 2019

Dear Prospective Graduate,

Two important deadlines are approaching. If you have not already done so, please be sure to order your regalia by May 10, 2019 and request your guest tickets by May 17, 2019.

Regalia

Graduates should place Commencement Regalia orders by May 10. For specific information on ordering your cap and gown, as well as locating the portal to place your order, visit the Caps and Gowns page of the website.

Tickets for Guests

Students should reserve guest tickets by Friday, May 17th. Please note, only Northwestern University students will be able to reserve and print tickets for the Commencement ceremony. Instructions for how to reserve tickets can be found on the Commencement Tickets web page.

Graduation Weekend Events
  • School Convocations - Each school will have their own celebratory events. Visit the Convocations, Ceremonies, & Receptions web page for more details.
  • Baccalaureate - Attend this interfaith service on June 20, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. incorporating the many traditions of the University through diverse readings of scripture, inspiring student reflections, and musical interludes provided by a student choir and orchestra.
  • Multicultural Student Affairs Senior Congratulatory Events - A number of additional cultural and identity-based celebrations will take place, including Lavender Graduation (June 18), The JOY-Journey of Our Years: NU's Black Congratulatory (June 20),  and Latinx Congratulatory (June 20). Dear Prospective Graduate,

As we approach Northwestern's 161st Commencement ceremony on June 21, 2019, we want to provide information to you in order to help you best prepare for the celebration:

Tickets

Beginning March 25th,  you may reserve guest tickets for 2019 Commencement and school convocations. There is no cost to order tickets for Commencement or convocations. Go to the Commencement tickets web site and log-in with the following promotion code:

  • COMM19+ StudentID
  • (Example: if your seven digit student ID= 1234567; then promotion code = "COMM19+1234567")
Important Information
  • Students must place ticket orders for Commencement and school convocations in the same transaction. Students cannot re-enter the ticketing website once their order has been confirmed.
  • Students should use the selection to “Continue shopping within this promo” make selections for Commencement and convocation tickets before checking out with their order.
  • Students may request a maximum of ten (10) tickets for the Commencement ceremony.
  • Ticket reservations must be placed by May 17, 2019
  • Please contact the Athletics Department about issues or changes with ticket orders at cat-tix@northwestern.edu or 847-491-2287 or 888-GO-PURPLE (467-8775).
Accessibility Needs
  • As part of the 10 ticket allotment for Commencement, students will be permitted to request accessible seating for their guests using wheelchairs and for those with accessibility needs related to mobility.
  • Please follow the prompts on the ticketing website to indicate how many guests will require accessible seating.
  • Visit the Guests with Accessibility Needs webpage for information pertaining to guests who require accommodations.
Confirmation

Once the tickets are reserved, you may be asked to create a profile for your account if you do not already have one in the system. Your ticket order confirmation will be sent to the email address you indicate in your profile. Tickets for Commencement and for school convocations will be emailed to students separately in June using the same address.

  • Please note, only Northwestern University graduates will be able to reserve and print tickets for the Commencement ceremony.
  • Ticket reservations and adjustments can be made by calling or emailing the Commencement Office.
  • Ticket reservations must be placed by May 17, 2019.
Regalia
  • As a reminder, graduates need to place Commencement Regalia orders by May 10, 2019.

Dear Prospective Graduate,

On behalf of Northwestern University, we want to congratulate you on your expected graduation! You've worked hard on this achievement, and we want to make sure that your graduation experience is positive, celebratory, and memorable for you and your guests. In order to assist with your planning, we are providing the following helpful information:

Caps and Gowns

  • All Students
    • Students who are graduating may place Commencement Regalia orders beginning Wednesday, March 13. Visit the Caps and Gowns web page for specific information on ordering your regalia.
  • Undergraduates with Financial Need
    • Financial Aid covers the cost of caps and gowns for graduating undergraduate students with financial need. Students who qualify will receive an email from the Commencement Office with ordering instructions by Friday, March 15.
    • Late orders after the May 10th deadline, will not be processed, and reimbursements are not available. If you have questions, please email the Commencement Office at Commencement@northwestern.edu.
  • Graduate Students with Financial Need
    • For graduate students with financial need, please complete the Financial Need Form.
    • The Commencement Office will email you confirming eligibility to receive financial aid for graduate regalia. Upon receipt of this communication graduates will then need to place their regalia order at the Caps and Gowns web page.
    • Graduate students with financial need must complete their application by Wednesday, May 8th for full consideration. No refunds will be issued to graduate students who have placed their regalia orders prior to requesting financial assistance.

Commencement Tickets

  • Each graduate may request up to ten (10) guest tickets for the June 21 Commencement ceremony at Ryan Field.
  • Tickets will be available beginning Monday, March 25.
  • Some school-specific Convocations will require tickets; others do not. Please review your specific school website information after March 25th to determine if you need tickets to this ceremony.

Dear 2019 Degree Candidates:

I am pleased to announce that Northwestern University will hold its One Hundred and Sixty-First Annual Commencement at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019 at Ryan Field. We look forward to welcoming you, your family members, and friends who have supported you during your time at Northwestern, to celebrate together your achievements. As you plan for the 2019 Commencement Weekend, I want to make you aware of a few things:

  • Each participating degree candidate will be allocated 10 guest tickets for the ceremony at Ryan Field. Guest tickets will be available for you to obtain beginning March 25, 2019.

    • Note: In case of severe weather, the ceremony may be altered. This could include a delay in the start time, moving the ceremony to a different time in the weekend schedule, or some other accommodation. More information concerning severe weather plans for Commencement will be available on the Commencement website.
  • I invite you to attend the President's Reception, scheduled for Thursday, June 20, at 11:30 a.m., and the Baccalaureate Service that afternoon, from 4 to 5 p.m. No tickets are required for these events.
  • Individual school convocations, where graduates are recognized by name, follow the Commencement ceremony at various times on Friday, June 21, and Saturday, June 22. Convocation ticket information will be sent to you by your school, and questions concerning convocations should be directed to the individual school offices.
