General Information

We are looking forward to having you with us to celebrate our graduates. Here are some important things to know to prepare for the Commencement Ceremony on Friday.

Attire

In June, Chicago-area weather conditions and temperatures can vary greatly.  Those who are sensitive to the sun should be prepared with sunscreen and appropriate protective headgear.  Comfortable shoes are recommended.  In the event of light rain, the ceremony will remain outdoors at Ryan Field, and guests and participants are advised to be prepared for the weather.

Bags and Personal Items

The following items are prohibited at Commencement:

  • alcohol
  • coolers
  • cans
  • food
  • long lens & video cameras
  • musical instruments or noisemakers
  • umbrellas
  • weapons

Individuals not complying with the directions of University staff maybe asked to leave the ceremony.

First Aid Stations

The Ryan Field First Aid Station is located at Gate P.

Information Booths

Information booths and refreshment stands serving complimentary water and lemonade are conveniently located in the Ryan Field area.

Photo Locations

Picture taking is encouraged at two specially created photo backdrops displaying the University seal. These locations, available before and after the Commencement ceremony, will be under the west stands of Ryan Field near Gates S and N.

Security

Measures will be in place for individual and community safety and security as we welcome you, your family, and your guests to campus. During your time on campus, you may encounter uniformed officers directing traffic or monitoring metal detectors at entrances, security personnel will be checking bags, and staff volunteers will be inside and outside of venues to help you with way-finding and answer questions.

Stroller Check

A designated place for securing strollers may be found at Gate Q.
