Mr. Pinsky taught "The Art of Poetry: Learning from the Past. Reading and Writing Poetry"

Robert Pinsky, Poet Laureate of the United States 1997-2000, is currently professor of English at Boston University. He is author of seven books of poetry: Sadness and Happiness (1975), An Explanation of America (1979), History of My Heart (1983), The Want Bone (1990), The Figured Wheel: New and Collected Poems, 1966-1996 (1996), The Sounds of Poetry: A Brief Guide (1998) and The Handbook of Heartbreak (1998). The Inferno of Dante (1994), Pinsky's translation of The Inferno, appeared on the best-sellers list of The Boston Globe and New York Newsday. His awards include the Lenore Marshall Award, the Ambassador Book Award of the English Speaking Union, the Saxifrage Prize, the William Carlos Williams Prize and the Shelley Memorial Award. He has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize as well as the National Book Critics Circle award. Born in 1940 in New Jersey, Pinsky attended Rutgers College and Stanford University.
