Sittercity.com
Northwestern faculty, staff and students now have access
to a free online database with hundreds of sitters. NU families
receive free membership to online service for locating part-time,
full-time and occasional babysitters to meet the flexible
needs of families. Sittercity can help
* with evening meetings or social occasions
* when regular providers are ill or unavailable
* when children have a school holidays
* when child care is needed on a flexible schedule
Families either post their "job" and are contacted
by interested sitters, or they can search the sitter database
by criteria such as references, availability, first aid and
CPR certification, and background checks. Families are responsible
for screening and hiring sitters appropriate to their child‚s
needs. To help facilitate the screening process, the service
offers significantly discounted access to a background check
mechanism through Lexus-Nexus. Families are encouraged to
plan ahead and screen providers and check references before
the need for care arises. The service also recently added
pet-sitting services.
NU affiliates can find more information about the services
at http://www.northwestern.edu/hr/benefits/childcare/sittercity/index.html and will sign up for free access to the database using their
NU Net ID and password.
