Northwestern University's Webcast service today
is based on RealNetwork's Real Server. In order to view a Webcast,
a user must have, at minimum, RealPlayer Basic installed on their
computer. RealPlayer Clients for Windows, Apple, and Unix are available.
- Getting Started
In order to Webcast an event, the event location
must have a 10Mbps or greater switched Ethernet NUNET network
connection. If you are unsure of the network service at your location,
contact NUIT at: 847/491-4532 or email webcasting@northwestern.edu.
- Production
Depending upon the size of the event, the audience,
and the location, a variety of production options are available.
Production can range from a single fixed camera to a fully produced
multi-camera event. Postproduction can also be arranged.
- Stored Content
An on-line, on-demand copy of the event will
be archived for a minimum of one year by the University Library
in both streamed and unedited archival tape formats after the
event as part of the Webcasting service. Northwestern will not
store, archive, or make available on-demand any program content
covered by property rights that specifically prohibit such activities.
IMPORTANT:
When planning your event you must consider whether
performance rights exist on any material that you will
be using. It will also be necessary to secure Performance Rights
"Releases"
from some or all of the participants in your event. Other materials
such as pictures, music, or written material, may be covered by
specific copyright that could preclude its use on a Webcast. It
is your responsibility to acquire all releases and licenses that
may be necessary for the use of materials and personal appearances.
For assistance with this, contact University Relations at: 847/491-1547.
