- Communication Center Operations
University Police personnel operate the Communications Center. Responsibilities include coordinating responses to calls for assistance, monitoring the Emergency Police “Blue Light” telephones (call boxes), closed circuit camera and alarm systems and serving as an informational resource for members of the Northwestern community and general public.
- CPR and AED Training
Red Cross certifications for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) are available for Northwestern students, faculty and staff.
University Police can provide fingerprints for departments and certifications that require it. Photo identification such as a valid driver’s license or a passport is required.
- Motorist Assistance
In most cases, when an affiliated community member or campus visitor locks their keys inside their vehicle, University Police will attempt to open the vehicle using a door-unlocking device. The requesting party must be the registered owner of the vehicle, have photo identification and sign a waiver. If University Police is unable to unlock a vehicle, we can assist in locating an unlocking service. University Police has battery jumper cables that are available to University community members and campus visitors. The Department can also assist in contacting a service center or towing service.
- Security Surveys
Upon request, University Police will conduct an on-campus security survey and make recommendations to improve area safety. Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) involves an examination of the physical, mechanical and organizational structure of a location to identify features that may contribute to criminal acts. Eligibility for a CPTED survey is generally based on the existence of a current crime problem.
