Download the Operation Identification Log Sheet
What is Operation Identification (ID)?
Identifiable valuables are less attractive to thieves. Marking / engraving property with
a unique number aids police in identifying and returning stolen property to the rightful
owner.
How does it work?
The University Police Department will check out a handheld electric engraver and provide
an Operation ID Log sheet (for documenting property information) and Operation ID decals
(to display on entry doors / windows at the location of marked property).
Engrave your property with a unique individual identifying number, for example, your
issuing state initials and driver's license number.
Never use your Social Security number.
If your marked property is stolen, advise the investigating Police Officer of the serial
and owner applied number information for your missing property. Complete your Operation
ID Log sheet and keep it in a safe place.
Which property should I mark and record?
Property of value a thief could carry away. Examples of items that should be marked and
recorded are cameras, bicycles, radios, televisions, electronic equipment, computers, etc.
