University Police will assign an officer to investigate all harassing telephone calls. The State of Illinois and Federal law prohibit the making of obscene or harassing phone calls.

Listed below are some suggestions to help you discourage these calls:

• Don't talk, remember, these type of callers want an audience.
• Hang Up as soon as you realize the nature of the call. Do not slam the receiver down, thereby admitting to the caller that you are annoyed.
• Contact University Police anytime you are threatened or receive harassing or obscene phone calls. University Police can provide you with a Harassing Telephone Call Log Sheet and recommend other investigative options.
• Save Harassing Messages on your answering machine for University Police.
• Keep a Log if calls persist or you are threatened. Recorded log information could provide valuable clues to the identity of the caller.
