Crime alerts are issued in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Crime Act by Northwestern University Police. A crime alert is issued when circumstances arise that require heightened awareness from the University community. Campus alerts will describe information about specific incidents that have posed a threat to life or property. This information is disseminated to campus community members via bulk e-mail, the University homepage and the University Police web site.

Attempted Armed Robbery
Evanston Campus, 1/23/2010

Three female Northwestern students were the victims of an attempted armed robbery near the intersection of Foster Street and Pratt Court in Evanston at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010. The students were walking north on Pratt Court when one of them heard someone behind them. The students turned and saw two men and one of the men displayed a handgun. All three students screamed and fled.

The students were not injured and nothing was taken.

A detailed description of the offenders could not be obtained.

The Northwestern University Police Department advises all community members to be alert when traveling on or off campus, especially at night. The Northwestern shuttle bus service provides transportation to areas both on and off campus every night until 3 a.m. In addition, SafeRide provides free rides at night. Trespass
Evanston Campus, 12/11/2009

Two Northwestern University female students reported that they were awakened at 5 a.m. Dec. 11 by a man shining a flashlight in their bedrooms in their off-campus residence in the 2100 block of Maple Avenue in Evanston. When they awoke, the man fled out the front door. There was no sign of forced entry to the residence.

The students were not injured and nothing was taken from the residence.

The offender was described as a male, but the victims could not provide a detailed description.

The Northwestern University Police Department advises all community members to take precautions when living on or off campus. Always ensure that the doors to your residence hall room, apartment or house are secured. Report suspicious activities immediately to the Northwestern University Police at 847-491-3456 or the Evanston Police at 847-866-5000. In an emergency, dial 911.

Criminal Sexual Abuse
Evanston Campus, 11/09/2009

A On Monday, Nov. 9, at approximately 9 p.m. a female Northwestern student was the victim of a criminal sexual abuse incident while in a hallway on the second floor of the Technological Institute, 2145 Sheridan Rd., on the Evanston campus. A male subject approached the victim and began to converse with her. When the student began to walk away from the subject, he grabbed her arm and began to grab her below the waist. The victim then screamed and the offender fled in an unknown direction. The Northwestern University Police Department was notified. A search of the building as well as the neighboring areas was unsuccessful.

The victim was not hurt and refused medical attention.

The offender was described as a black male, approximately 25 years of age, dark complexion, 5 feet 8 inches tall, thin to medium build with shoulder length hair braids. The subject was clean-shaven and wearing a white oversized short sleeve T-shirt.

The University Police Department reminds all community members to report suspicious activities/persons immediately to University Police or Evanston Police by dialing 911 or by using a blue light emergency telephone. Robbery
Evanston Campus, 10/18/2009

A female Northwestern student was the victim of a robbery in the 800 block of Foster Street in Evanston at approximately 7:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009. The student was walking on Foster when she was approached by a woman who stepped on the student's foot and demanded the student's purse. The student refused to give up her purse but gave the offender $25. The offender then fled west on Foster.

The student was not injured.

The offender was described as a dark-skinned female African American with a heavy build, 5-7, in her late teens or early 20s, wearing a zip-up dark jacket and dark jeans.

Strong Arm Robbery
Evanston Campus, 10/12/2009

A male Northwestern student was the victim of a robbery in the 600 block of Noyes Street in Evanston at approximately 2:10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2009. The student was riding his bicycle west on Noyes when a car pulled up near him and two men jumped out, pushed him off of his bicycle and took his backpack, containing his laptop computer, cell phone and cash.

The offenders were described as African American males in their 20s, wearing dark clothing.

Attempted Strong Arm Robbery
Chicago Campus, 09/14/2009

On September 14, 2009 at approximately 8:15 pm, a Northwestern University
student was the victim of an attempted strong arm robbery. The incident happened as the student was walking west bound in the 200 block of east Chicago Avenue. The victim stated that she was approached by 3 young Hispanic males riding bicycles. One of the males unsuccessfully attempted to grab her purse. The offenders fled east on Chicago Avenue. The student was not injured.

The offenders are describes as follows:
Offender # 1 - Male Hispanic, approximately 10 years old, height unknown, weight unknown, chubby build, wearing a white tee-shirt.
Offender # 2 - Male Hispanic, approximately 14 - 15 years old, height unknown, weight unknown, build unknown, clothing unknown.
Offender # 3 - Male Hispanic, approximately 14 - 15 years old, height unknown, weight unknown, build unknown, clothing unknown.
